Can you fly a plane past TBO?

Basically, if your engine is not producing abnormal wear metal, has good compressions, does not consume oil at an alarming rate and is maintained in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions, more times than not, you can safely fly past TBO without any issues. And there are folks who do it day in and day out. The FAA, in its infinite wisdom, requires aircraft engine manufacturers to publish TBOs for their engines, but doesn’t require aircraft owners to abide by them. You are free to continue flying behind your engine as it remains airworthy.Under U. S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, TBO is mandatory for commercial operators. An engine cannot be used beyond the manufacturer’s recommended service life without an overhaul. In noncommercial operations, an aircraft may fly beyond TBO as long as a qualified mechanic certifies airworthiness.TBO is for everyone. TBO the AC can’t be returned t service. Engine TBO is a recommendation for us aircraft owners. It’s not required and I know people who are able to exceed TBO with good compression and oil analysis by 300 or 400 hours.
