Why do pilots say V2?

While V1 is the critical decision speed on the runway, V2 governs what happens immediately after liftoff. As the ‘takeoff safety speed,’ V2 represents the minimum speed the aircraft must maintain to climb safely and effectively, even if an engine fails. V2 is the minimum take-off speed that the aircraft must attain by 35 feet above the runway surface with one engine failed at VEF, and maintain during the second segment of the take-off.
