Why are Rotax engines so good?
The Rotax achieves its power using a smaller, turbo-boosted, partially liquid-cooled engine with electronic management and a prop-speed reduction gear, contrasting with Lycoming’s larger-displacement, air-cooled, carbureted design. Engine cooling for the Rotax 582 is accomplished by liquid cooled cylinders and cylinder heads. Figure 11-4] The cooling system is in a two circuit arrangement. The cooling liquid is supplied by an integrated pump in the engine through the cylinders and the cylinder head to the radiator.
What is the lifespan of a Rotax engine?
rotax engines have a use by date, i. they also have a tbo time before rebuild. Lets say you have an engine that has a tbo of 1500 hours but has only done 800 hours in use . Rotax allows 100 hours if the engine is run on unleaded mogas and synthetic oil, but that drops to 50hours if the engine is run on 100ll more than 30% of the time, and drops to 25 hours if it’s more than 50%.
