How many miles per gallon does a Rotax 912 get?

When setting the 912 iS at just under 5000 rpm I see about 125 mph (about 110 knots) at lower altitudes, at which speed digital instruments calculate 30 miles per gallon. Since 1989, Rotax has sold more than 46,000 four stroke engines in the 912/914 family (80 to 115 horsepower); that’s nearly 2,000 a year. The 912 ULS has a slightly larger bore and longer stroke than the 912 UL. Otherwise the two engines are very similar. The Rotax 914 UL engine is similar to the 912 UL, but with the addition of a turbo charger giving it a horsepower rating of 115 horsepower, as well as giving it much better altitude performance.

How often does a Rotax 912 need servicing?

Rotax reduce the oil change intervals to 50Hrs (if you can, 25hrs wont harm) replace the spark plugs every 100hrs & have the slipper clutch inspected every 600hrs. So using Avgas will see you having to do a bit more maintenance. USE OF AVGAS: If you find it necessary to use Avgas in your Rotax 912/914 aircraft engine you will need to replace your spark plugs twice as often, and change the oil and oil filter at least every 50 hours.
