What are aircraft subsystems?

An aircraft can itself be considered a system composed of four subsystems (see Figure 3): structure, aerodynamics, controls, and propulsion (Anderson 1989;Moir and Seabridge 2001). Defining Systems and Subsystems It is designed to fulfil specific functions or purposes and exhibits emergent behaviour that surpasses the capabilities of its individual parts. On the other hand, subsystems are self-contained entities within larger systems. The primary function of a subsystem is to orchestrate and organize the behavior of its internal parts, while the actual operations are performed by the primitive objects contained within the subsystem, often referred to as semantic objects.

What are some examples of subsystems?

The relationship between a system and subsystems is that subsystems exist within larger systems. Inventory management within the distribution system, a single course within a College of Business, and a server room within an organization’s information technology infrastructure are all subsystem examples. The electronics subsystem is a distributed network of intelligent electronic components that are responsible for command and control of the whole instrument, for scientific data acquisition, for housekeeping data generation and for power management.
