If the needle were between 1/2 and 3/4, this would mean you have 5/8 of gasoline in your tank. The space between two lines on a gas gauge indicates an eighth of a tank. If the needle is between 1/2 and 3/4, it means you have 5/8 of gasoline. The line nearest to the bottom means 1/4 tank, and below that is close to 1/8, which means you should fill up now.
