A skunkworks project is a project developed by a relatively small and loosely structured group of people, generally within a larger organization, who research and develop a project, often with a very large degree of autonomy, primarily for the sake of radical innovation. He knew they would deliver because Skunk Works had done it before. They had a system of working together that made the impossible-possible. Following Lockheed Martin’s example, Skunk Works have been adopted by businesses like Walmart, Alphabet’s Google X, Oracle, and Dupont.Some famous recent examples of skunkworks projects include the semisecret X lab, founded in 2010 by the search giant Google and now owned by parent company Alphabet, and the lab Steve Jobs formed to develop the Macintosh computer.
