What is so special about the Boeing 777X?
The 777X introduces several innovations, including unique folding wingtips, gigantic GE9X engines that are larger than the fuselage of a 737, and a reengineered cabin architecture that will free airlines to be creative and delight passengers. The 777X Leads In Length But Not In Overall Size Yet in most other dimensions, the A380 dominates. Its full-length double-deck and height make it the most physically imposing passenger aircraft ever built. While the A350 was optimized for nine-across seating, some airlines squeeze in 10. The 777X, built for 10 across, will instead offer more personal space rather than extra seats. So in the end: 👉 Airbus wins on numbers. Boeing on comfort.Airbus A350-1000. Both are incredible long-haul aircraft, but they have some key differences. The 777-9 is longer, has a higher seating capacity, and a massive wingspan. The new purchase brings Emirates’ 777X order – consisting of the 777-9 and 777-8 models – to 270 airplanes, further cementing its position as the largest 777X customer.
What is the 777X competitor?
Airbus a350 it’s been years in the making — but the boeing 777x is finally nearing takeoff. Billed as the world’s largest and most efficient twin-engine jet, it’s designed to outfly and outclass its rival, the airbus a350. Meanwhile, airbus during the same week also confirmed that it was studying the possible release of an a350 stretch, which would position the a350 to better compete with the 777x family and look to erode any potential market share the american planemaker could win over in the space without competition. When Boeing’s long-delayed 777X finally enters service (expected 2027), it will take the crown — being over a foot wider and longer than the A350, powered by massive GE9X engines and featuring folding wingtips unlike anything else in commercial aviation. While the 777X has clear advantages, the A350 offers compelling reasons that might sway airlines: Better Fuel Efficiency: The A350-1000 burns approximately 32 lbs of fuel per nautical mile compared to the 777-9’s 48 lbs, thanks to its lighter composite structure (53% composites) and Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines. The A380 is bigger in all dimensions than the 777X and has a higher MTOW and capacity.
Why is 777X not certified?
The 777X certification has previously been held up by design and parts quality problems, as well as an “uncommanded pitch event” during a 2020 test flight. The certification process involves a series of grueling trials, and test flights for the new aircraft resumed in 2025. Almost six years have passed since the 2020 target that Boeing originally set for itself to get the first 777X model in service. Multiple factors have contributed to program delays, including the Covid-19 pandemic and a pair of fatal accidents involving 737 Max narrowbodies in 2018 and 2019.
