What is the difference between ACAS and TCAS?
A traffic alert and collision avoidance system (TCAS), pronounced /ˈtiːkæs/ TEE-kas), also known as an Airborne Collision Avoidance System (ACAS), is an aircraft collision avoidance system designed to reduce the incidence of mid-air collision (MAC) between aircraft. TCAS involves aircraft transponders interrogating each other to predict a collision course. A potential conflict triggers a Traffic Advisory (TA). This could escalate to a Resolution Advisory (RA). TAs are only an alert. How does ACAS work?

What is ACAS used for?
Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS) is a software set of information security tools used for vulnerability scanning and risk assessment by agencies of the United States Department of Defense (DoD). It performs automated vulnerability scanning and device configuration assessment. ACAS X detects nearby aircraft by receiving sensor measurements from onboard surveillance systems and estimates the relative position and speed of these aircraft by using tracking algorithms. The system then weighs the costs of all actions the pilot could take and decides on a single best action.The Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS), also known as the Airborne Collision Avoidance System (ACAS) is an airborne system designed to increase cockpit awareness of nearby aircraft and service as a last defense against mid-air collisions.A TCAS RA takes priority over an ATC instruction and visual acquisition of traffic as it cannot be guaranteed that the aircraft acquired visually is the same as the intruder detected by the TCAS system, or it may not be the only aircraft to which ACAS is responding.
