Does GE make jet engines?

GE Aerospace is a world-leading provider of jet and turboprop engines, as well as integrated systems for commercial, military, business and general aviation aircraft. It was the largest jet engine, until being surpassed in January 2020 by its successor, the 110,000 lbf (490 kN) GE9X, which has a larger fan diameter by 6 inches (15 cm). However, the GE90-115B, the most recent variant of the GE90, is rated for a higher thrust (115,000 lbs) than the GE9X.At 132 inches in diameter, the GE9X front fan will be even larger than the one used by its older sibling. Fourth-generation composites allowed the blades to be fewer and thinner, with the same strength and durability. The GE9X has only 16 fan blades, down from 22 on the GE90-115B engine, and 18 on the GEnx.The GE9X is the most powerful aircraft engine in history and the quietest GE engine ever produced (pounds of thrust per decibel). The engine will bring up to 10% specific fuel consumption improvement compared to the GE90-115B.

What makes the GE90 engine so special?

Powering the twin-engine Boeing 777 aircraft, the GE90 engine combined record thrust and high reliability with lower noise, emissions, and fuel consumption to become an iconic jet engine recognized worldwide for its size and innovations. The General Electric GE90 is a family of high-bypass turbofan aircraft engines built by GE Aerospace for the Boeing 777, with thrust ratings from 81,000 to 115,000 pounds-force (360 to 510 kilonewtons). It entered service with British Airways in November 1995.Boeing already uses GE engines on nearly every commercial aircraft they build[xii]. Boeing installs GE engines on its 747, 767, 777 and 787 families of aircraft.

Do Airbus use GE engines?

The A330 was Airbus’s first airliner to offer a choice of three engines: the General Electric CF6, Pratt & Whitney PW4000, or the Rolls-Royce Trent 700. When measured by nearly every standard aviation metric, the Airbus A380 is bigger than the Boeing 747. The A380 is the largest passenger aircraft ever built. It has a greater wingspan, taller tail height, higher maximum takeoff weight, and significantly more cabin space than the 747.In addition, when it comes to scale, the A380 is both heavier and taller. Its maximum takeoff weight reaches around 575 tons, almost two-thirds more than the 777-9’s 351 tons, reflecting the structure required to lift two full passenger decks and four engines. The A380 has four engines in total, and can easily tolerate the loss of just one in normal flight.
