Is the EJ200 engine reliable?
The EJ200 offers proven reliability with its: Engine control by an integrated Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC) system, providing carefree handling, precise control and engine health monitoring data, maximising asset value. Low engine removal rate. Delivered high operational availability. The EJ20G is considered to be a good engine, but it is old. Most of the plastics will be deteriorating, the wiring will probably be stiff and brittle, and there will be no way to pass this engine through emissions testing. Tuning options for these engines are limited, and replacement parts are difficult to find. The EJ20 is actually pretty damn reliable as long as you keep oil in it, even turbocharged ones. I would expect most of the maintenance at that mileage and age to be chassis related, not engine related.
What is the lifespan of the EJ200?
The engine is designed for a life of 6,000 flying hours which corresponds to approximately 30 years of operation. Engine life of naturally aspirated EJ20 is around 150,000 miles (250,000 km) with proper maintenance.
