What is a motorized paraglider called?

Powered paragliding, also known as paramotoring or PPG, is a form of ultralight aviation where the pilot wears a back-pack motor (a paramotor) which provides enough thrust to take off using a paraglider. A Paramotor will cruise at a similar speed to a paraglider, about 25mph, perhaps 40+ mph on the fastest wings! And so is still only useable in fairly light winds. This slow flight characteristic means that very low-level flying ‘hedge hopping’ is possible, and great fun.Paramotoring (also known as powered paragliding) enables the pilot to take off from level ground unassisted and climb to altitude; there is no need to launch from a hill or high ground. Modern paramotors are capable of speeds up to 75km/h and can fly for several hours at a time.

What is paragliding with a motor?

A powered paraglider is a foot-launched inflatable wing. The paraglider itself has no rigid structure and the pilot is suspended by lines. The pilot is clipped into a harness and the motor is a backpack unit with propeller to give thrust allowing you to climb and fly level at your own will. Paragliding or parapente (the French term) is a glider sport. One flies with a parakite or paraglider. Although a paragliding wing bears some resemblance to a parachute, the operation and purpose are very different.A paramotor, also known as a powered paraglider or PPG, combines the easy flying characteristics of a paraglider wing with the autonomy and range of powered flight.
