What is the life expectancy of a Cirrus SR22?

The Cirrus SR22 initially had an airframe life limit of 4,350 hours on its Type Certificate Data Sheet (TCDS)¹. This limit is based on fatigue testing and analysis of the composite structure. The SR22 initially had a relatively low airframe life limit of 4350 hours, due to assessment using SR20 loads. However Cirrus carried out a new series of wing tests in 2003 to extend the airframe life limit to the same 12,000 flight hours as the SR20.

How much to overhaul a Cirrus SR22?

Engine Time If the SMOH is 1,400-1,500 hours, you may be in for an expensive $47,000 engine overhaul expense after only a few hundred hours of use. I have talked to many owners that have gone past the TBO by anywhere from 200 hours to 600 hours with no issues. Still sounds good, but let’s think out loud about this. If it’s a brand-new engine, going past TBO should be pretty painless. The engine is good, has new parts, it’s first-time wear.
