What is the problem with Pratt and Whitney GTF engines?
Pratt & Whitney says its latest engine snag will impact at least 1,200 of its GTF engines that power A320neo jets and will need up to 60 days to inspect and fix after microscopic contaminants were found in a metal used in part of the engine core. These airframes now hold the record as the youngest A320neos ever to be scrapped. The two planes are registered as N950NK (MSN 10769) and N959NK (MSN 10921). The decision is driven by a critical shortage of spare parts and engines, specifically for the Pratt & Whitney GTF models these aircraft use.
